But how do you know if you need Counselling?
This depends on you as an individual.
Some signs that you may benefit from Counselling and therapy are:
- feeling tense, anxious or nervous a lot of the time
- being unable to cope with usual tasks, work or study
- changes in your behaviour
- crying a lot
- being more aggressive or passive than usual
- having difficulty controlling your temper and being irritable
- withdrawing from people
- ignoring your personal hygiene
- experiencing panic or terror
- making plans to hurt yourself or end your life
- having difficulty with sleep and eating
- increasing your use of alcohol, medication and other substances
- feeling unhappy, despairing or hopeless
- experiencing headaches, nausea and unexplained aches and pains
- having unwanted memoires or images from the past
Of course, just experiencing one of these signs does not necessarily mean you need to consider Counselling. However, if you have a few of them, it might be worthwhile thinking about whether you might need some extra support and help. You may also want to think about:
- whether you feel you can cope or not
- how long you have been feeling or experiencing the troubling emotions and thoughts. The longer you have been having them, the more likely they are to remain
- the strength or intensity of your feelings. Regardless of how long you have been having them, how much distress are they causing you?
